The Real Ghostbusters Complete Collection

completeseriesThere was a time, now long forgotten, when cartoons dominated Saturday mornings. Kids, and adults, would wake up and watch Transformers, G. I. Joe, The Smurfs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superfriends, Thundercats, The Real Ghostbusters, and many others. It was a golden age of animation, and for many different reasons, that age past away. The end of Saturday morning cartoons was a great loss of entertainment. It is not only nostalgia that brings us back to these shows. These animated series were well written by writers who went onto successful careers writing comics, books, and films. The Real Ghostbusters merged the literary works of Poe, Stoker, and Lovecraft, while mixing in adult humor that allowed for broader appeal.

The Real Ghostbusters was based on the 1984 hit film Ghostbusters staring, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. The animated series produced 147 episodes over seven seasons from 1986 to 1991 following the Ghostbusters as they chased and captured ghosts in New York city. The cast also included the Ghostbuster’s secretary Janine Melnitz, good-natured nerd Louis Tully, and a very hungry ghost named Slimer.

In 2008 Time Life Video released the complete series with an amazing DVD box set (spans 25 discs) that is hosted inside a replica of the Ghostbuster’s firehouse. Each volume comes its own beautifully decorated solid steel book case. Along with every episode this set boasts over twelve hours of bonus content including episode introductions, music scores and effect tracks, commentary from producers, voice actors, and writers, five exclusive documentaries, a 48-page booklet with trivia and artwork for every episode, plus hours of extra footage. It’s obvious this package was designed by people who understand the franchise and had the fans best interest in mind.

This box set can be purchased directly from Time Life Video, Amazon.com, eBay, and many other online retail stores.
