Advice: Your Degree is Only Worth 25 Percent.

There seems to be this false belief that if you get an education or a prestigious degree that you should be able to find or keep a job. Some advice: No degree or amount of experience can guarantee that you won’t be out on the street tomorrow. Your only security is in your skills, knowledge, AND your ability to market yourself effectively. It amazes me how many people have great resumes and totally bomb the interview. I’m a fairly low key interviewer. I don’t ask a lot of ridiculous philosophical questions. I will ask direct questions about education, prior experience, skills, and why you want to work for this company. If you can’t answer simple questions about yourself, or sell your qualifications, then all the degrees in the world won’t be worth more than toilet paper.
