PS4 Killzone Launch Day Bundle

Launch Day PS4 Bundle Sony sold over one million PS4 consoles in a single day, and I was one of those customers. My launch day bundle included the Sony exclusive Killzone game and a 12 month subscription to Playstation Plus Network.

I unpackaged my PS4, updated the software, and started playing Killzone within 30 minutes. I have read that some PS4 uses experience HDMI connection issues, but I did not have this issue, or any other issue. My installation was fast and smooth.

The PS4 feels like a top-of-the-line next generation gaming console. The Duelshock 4 controller has been improved since the PS3 and the modifications feel great. The controller is comfortable and easy to use. The navigation interface looks clean and it’s simple to operate. The homepage has two rows of icons. The top row lists the Sony store, trophies, gamer profiles, console settings, and friend lists. The second row shows installed games with the most recently played games appearing first on the list. Finding games and apps is quick and painless.

The hard drive space seems limited at 500 GB since standard games install at 30 to 40 GB’s each. This is not a big problem. Games install quickly and they install while you are playing the game. Killzone requires 35 GB’s. I was creating a new game within 20 seconds of inserting the Killzone disk. The game installed as I played without interruption. If the HD fills up then you will need to delete some unused games. Deleting a game only removes the game files, not the trophies, or saved games. If you want to come back and replay a deleted game then just insert the game CD and load up a saved file. The game will re-install itself as play continues.

None of the following matters that much to me, but all the social media integration is included. You can save screenshots and video clips, then upload them to Facebook. You can also stream live gameplay allowing others to watch and comment in real time. You will see the comments pop up as they are posted. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Videos, and all the other movie streaming apps are available.

My complaints are relatively small. The worst part of the PS4 is the multiplayer headset. It’s a cheap single ear bud with a flimsy mute button. It’s junk. You will need to buy a decent headset. I also wish there were more exclusive games available at launch. There are two exclusive games, Killzone and Knack. Sony has a great list of exclusive games but most are not scheduled for release until 2014.

The PS4 sidelines a lot of the gimmicks and plays games. It’s a great product with a ton of gaming potential, and it has the best looking graphics out of any of the next gen consoles. The selling price is on point, and the library of games due out in 2013-2014 are impressive. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.
