Horror Movies are Big Business

Looking to strike it rich? Everyone loves fear. Try making a horror movie. The movie Halloween was made in 1978 on a budget of $325,000 and went on to make 47 million dollars at the box office. Sinister was made in 2012 on a budget of 3 million dollars and went on to make nearly 80 million.

Box Office Mojo compiled a list of horror movies (see chart below) filmed since 2009 – listing total budget and final sales figures. All budgets were under 20 million dollars with quite a few filmed for less than 5 million dollars. Every movie has incredible sales figures.

Horror movies are proving to be a monster of a business.
